An Open Letter on Marriage Equality

← Back to Blog Archive

Brad Laurvick's open letter on marriage equality, affirming his commitment to full LGBTQ+ inclusion in the Methodist church and Denver Public Schools. As a pastor and school board candidate, Brad believes every student and family deserves to be seen, honored, and fully included.

"Every student and family deserves to be seen, honored, and fully included — in our schools, in our churches, and in our community."
Brad Laurvick

Throughout his ministry at Highlands United Methodist Church in northwest Denver, Brad had been an outspoken advocate for marriage equality and LGBTQ+ rights within a denomination that was deeply divided on the issue. Earlier that year, he traveled to the Methodist General Conference in St. Louis to argue for inclusion — a position the global church ultimately rejected.

That experience sharpened his resolve. As a candidate for the DPS Board of Education, Brad carried the same principle into education policy: no child should feel invisible in their own school. His letter called on voters, educators, and faith leaders alike to stand for the dignity of every family in District 5.
